Recyclopaedia
Finding Joy in a Load of Old Rubbish
The challenge of entertaining kids in the holidays and a passion for recycling has culminated in today`s official launch of an innovative solution for parents and teachers alike. The aptly named Recyclopaedia is an exciting compendium of craft projects made solely from everyday waste items.
Featuring such delights as an Egg Carton Angel and a Milk Bottle Whale, the Recyclopaedia is the brainchild of Canterbury entrepreneur and mum Fiona Edwards. Her company, Kinley Education, has for the past four years gathered waste to produce craft packs of materials suitable for pre and primary school aged children.
Created in direct response to customer requests from early childhood educators throughout New Zealand, the Recyclopaedia proves it’s just not necessary to buy an array of elaborate craft materials to inspire creativity. In fact most of what children need for hours of fun is probably already sitting around the home.
Not only does it teach children to make the most of household waste, the book even has a section on ‘deconstruction’ to encourage children to consider what elements of their completed project could be recycled again.
Chief Executive of SIFT, Linda Norris, is delighted that the awareness of recycling is being brought to the country’s youngest consumers via the Recyclopaedia. She notes “it teaches young minds to be aware of where what they buy will ultimately end up as well as having a lot of fun along the way.”
The Recyclopaedia is available to buy online at www.reuseit.co.nz for just $45 including delivery anywhere in New Zealand.
